The Premier League operates as a corporation led by a chief executive, with the clubs functioning as shareholders. In the 2016-17 season, clubs received a total of £2.4 billion in central payments, along with an additional £343 million in solidarity payments to EFL clubs.

Since its launch in 1992, a total of 51 clubs have participated in the Premier League, including 49 from England and 2 from Wales. Seven clubs have claimed the championship title: Manchester United (13), Manchester City (8), Chelsea (5), Arsenal (3), Blackburn Rovers (1), Leicester City (1), and Liverpool (1). Manchester United holds the record for the most titles, while Manchester City has the most consecutive wins, with four. Only six clubs have been present in every season so far: Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
